Achilles tendon pain, please help.?
Yesterday (as well as the 2 days before and the week before), I rode my stationary bike. When I was finished, I made dinner and watched TV. While laying in bed 2-3 hours later, I noticed a soreness in my achilles tendon (right above the heel). When I tried walking, I was limping. Today I am still limping. I did not hit it or anything. Should I not ride my bike today? What is possibly the problem?

Don’t ride it…rest, take some anti inflammatories and stay away from strenuous activities
If it hurts you enough to limp then definitely stop all strenous activity including the stationary bike. You could have an achilles strain, which is what it sounds like to me. I strained my achilles and kept on walking on it but did no strenous activity. Doing this caused it to heal very poorly and it’s 2 years later and my injury is still weak and painful. You’d better go and see a doctor.
IF I WAS YOU… I would use some crutches for a couple of weeks. I’ve actually hurt both of my achilles (strain and small tear) and kept walking on them, thinking that they would heal. I didn’t do ANYTHING strenuous and tried to limit my mobility as much as possible. They are both in very bad condition and I know it’s because I kept walking on them and didn’t give them the proper conditions in order to heal. I feel very strongly that if I had used crutches with my achilles injuries, they would be just fine right now. Full ruptures of an achilles are usally back to normal walking in 6-8 months but mine are 2 and 2.5 years old and both are still very bad. You do the math, and be warned that you should probably use crutches for a while. You can learn this lesson the easy way from my 2 mistakes. 2 that have completely ruined my life. Alot of stress is put on the achilles just by simple walking. Way too much in order to heal properly. Just feel how tight someone else’s achilles gets when they take a step forward with one foot and the back foot’s achilles is stretched when the rear foot is behind the body. It’s alot of stress and I’ll say it again that I think that you should use crutches. After the initial healing period which you are still in, if the tendon was not given the right conditions to heal, it will have developed scar tissue and will be very weak. Plus, after that window of opportunity has expired, it is too late and it will have already healed poorly and healing after that will be very slow, trust me. The initial time after the injury, the first week or so, is the time when you have to act and give the right conditions to heal in order for it to happen right.
