Achilles tendon question?

So i was in a basketball tournament 3 weeks ago and my achilles tendon started to hurt. Since then, it still hurts everytime i put my basketball sneaker on. Can someone please help me on what i should do or what straches i can do to heal it?? I have another tournament coming up and i would like to go without pain in my achilles for once.

    * Rest and apply cold therapy or ice (not directly onto the skin).
    * Wear a heel pad to raise the heel and take some of the strain off the achilles tendon. This should be a temporary measure while the achilles tendon is healing.
    * See a sports injury professional who can advise on treatment and rehabilitation.

    What can a Sports Injury Therapist or Doctor do?

    * Prescribe anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen.
    * Identify the causes and prescribe orthotics or a change in training methods.
    * Tape the back of the leg to support the tendon.
    * Apply a plaster cast if it is really bad.
    * Use ultrasound treatment.
    * Apply sports massage techniques.
    * Prescribe a rehabilitation programme.
    * Some might give a steroid injection however an injection directly into the tendon is not recommended. Some specialists believe this can increase the risk of a total rupture.
    * Scan with an MRI or Ultrasound – see latest research for more info.

    If you look after this injury early enough you should make a good recovery. It is important you rehabilitate the tendon properly after it has recovered or the injury will return. If you ignore the early warning signs and do not look after this injury then it may become chronic which is very difficult to treat. Good luck.

    This sounds, just on the face of it, that this is an overuse or strain situation, but not a sprain. If this is a burning sensation and flares up particularly after you get up out of bed, but you could have an asymmetry barely detectable that would cause you to rely on this aching foot more so than the other.

    Lean, face first, against the wall, hands on the wall, with one leg bent, then the other leg straight back. This straight leg will have the ball of the foot on the floor. Try to press until your foot is flat (heel also making contact with the floor). This will stretch everything out. You can’t really stretch out a feeling of injury in the Achilles tendon, but you can force the built up lactic acid through the membrane around the soleus muscle, which runs down the entire length of the backside of the lower leg. Ice, alternated with heat, and rubbing the affected area never hurts.

    You need to rest it. If you keep beating up on it, for one: it won’t be able to heal and for two: You could do damage to it that will lead to a chronic condition and this is the worst thing that could happen to you. I hurt my achilles tendon too and I kept using it and now, it’s 2 and a half years later and the injury is still terrible and it seems like it can no longer heal itself and healing is slow to seemingly non-existent.

    Why? Because I didn’t let it heal properly. If you keep abusing it scar tissue will build up which is weak and inelastic and also has poor blood flow. It also has fibers that are not aligned and disoriented which further reduced strength. Believe me, the time to treat an injury, especially one to the achilles is sooner rather than later. Over time the injury’s ability to recover gets less and less.

    You may even seriously consider getting on some crutches to give the tendon a good start on healing. Walking actually puts alot of stress on the achilles and stress is what’s going to keep pulling apart that mend that’s trying to form in the tendon. I would see a doctor and ask him or her about crutches and for advice in general. I wish that I would have used crutches after my achilles injury, I wouldn’t be having any problems now if I had.

    Achilles injuries are NO JOKE! Before my injury, I would say that I was a 9 or 10 out of 10 on a scale of happiness but now I would say that I’m about a 4. Treat that injury like you life depends on it because there’s nothing worse than living in a hopeless prison for the rest of you life like I am with this injury.
