Achilles Tendinitis or something else worse what should I do next?
On Aug 28th I sprained my ankle. The pain has gotten worse since then. RICE is not working it in fact it makes the ankle feel worse. I have been to doctor she said I have Achilles Tendinitis. But a week a felt and hear a pop. I can’t put any weight on the foot. I can’t press down on the gas pedal with out either using my whole foot or my pushing my knee. I have a hard time climbing stairs. I can’t stand on my toes. I have pain in both back of the heel and in the calf. What should I do next?
Let me add this R.I.C.E does not work and NSAID don’t work. With R.I.C.E the pain is worst. and NSAID only takes the edge of a little.
What should I do to keep running?
I’m in CC and am REALLY FRIGGEN’ CLOSE to varsity. Though I’ve been taking care of myself, I’m also hurting. A lot. When we start warm-ups, everything starts to hurt. Right hip, left thigh, both knees, shins, ankles, and now today my right Achilles tendon. Some of the pains go away as we finish our warm-ups, but others get worse. My right hip and left knee are the only pains that ever hurt enough to make me stop. Been treating it it with ice and ibuprofen, plus biking. I’m afraid to tell my coach because I’ve been getting so much better and don’t want to stop midway in season. Our injured girls outnumber our JV girls!
I also have trouble breathing at almost every race. Random people are always asking if I have asthma. The only times I don’t have trouble is when I stay up all night and endorphins keep me going or I drink coffee ALL DAY.
It’s not the shoes– my shoes are perfect.
“And for the breathing thing, are you saying you don’t have breathing trouble when you don’t sleep or drink lots of coffee on RACE days? Those are terrible things to do before a race…”
Eep! I know :/ That’s why I don’t make a habit out of it.
How many seconds should i decrease my mile time each day?
Because it is so cold out here in virginia (the blizzard is about to begin!), i have to run on the treadmill. I used to be a very good runner with a 5:55 mile time. Now, it is around 7:15 to 7:30. I want to bring it down to at least 6:20. I don’t really have a time limit for my goal, but maybe by June. (4 months?) I’d still rather have it be sooner than later, though. My treadmill has the thing on it where it says my pace, so I can choose how fast I want my mile time to be each time. My question is, how many seconds each day should I decrease by? Like 10 seconds a day, or 15, or 5? Keep in mind: I have moderate asthma (mostly corrected by my inhaler), I’m young (almost 15), I would be running 4 or 5 times a week, but I would not be running much each time (10 minutes brisk walk, run a mile fast, walk another mile, and stretch). I can’t run too much at once because 1. I’m kind of lazy, and 2. My knees and ankles are very weak and can’t handle it sometimes (tendinitis). Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also, I could probably be convinced to push myself farther, but I don’t want to start of with a goal that is too large. Thanks!
Should I give up on one of the best things in my life?
I have inherited poor joints from my parents. They never got the chance to play sports, but they have given me this opportunity. The problem is that I always get injured. 7 years ago I began to play one of my favorite things in the world, soccer. That year I got tendinitis. I was on crutches for 13 months. 2 years later, my hamstrings would consistently-yet-randomly “give up” and I would be unable to move. 2 years later, I fractured my patella (by bending it :S ). Since then I never shot the ball with my left leg. Last year I broke my right ankle (tibia). I was able to get myself fit for an indoor soccer season this winter, and I was playing very well. But then I bruised my calf muscle and missed 4 weeks. Now just recently, in January I was playing well again, but after a game my right ankle swelled up (but not where I broke it last time). It was okay the next week, but if I ever took a shot with my right foot, my ankle would respond with a very sharp pain which in the heat of the game I could feel, but walk it off, however after the game it would swell again. I tried to tough out the season, I even saw a doctor to make sure it would be okay, and he said that it should heal up, nothing seems to be wrong. Yet I’m typing here, in March, with an ice pack still wrapped around my ankle.
Is it worth playing again?
Soccer, next to family, is the dearest thing to me…
Should I take a multi-vitamin? Which one?
I’m 26 and I generally eat healthy. But lately I’ve strained my back and neck muscles, getting tendonitis in my hands/ankles– I’m a mess. I figured maybe if I take a vitamin it will help me heal and prevent other injuries. But I’m worried about the effects of ODing on fat soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E and K). I was thinking I could take a children’s vitamin which doesn’t have 100% of every vitamin, so this way it’s a supplement, rather than the full daily value. What’s your opinion?
What is wrong with my foot? What should I do to help it?
I played soccer for 9 years, and I quit playing 2 years ago. Ever since a few months before I quit, my foot hurts when I exercise. The pain has grown over the past year or so. I have basically quit working out at all because it’s uncomfortable. My pain is on the outside of my right foot right to the inside of the eye of my ankle. Lately, I’ve even noticed that the outside of my knee and a little part of my outer shin area have been a little painful.
My foot hurts the most when I’ve been walking on it for a little while. If I stretch it, it pops and becomes a little sore. It doesn’t really hurt to touch, though.
I went to the doctor the other day and asked about it, but she didn’t help me at ALL. She said that people worry about tendonitis, but she didn’t even look at it or ask me anything else.
What is the problem? What should I do to help it go away so that I can get back to my normal exercises?
What shoes should I buy?
Some I am only fifteen, and I already need orthotics because my feet are messed up. I just got the and I need some shoes that they will fit in. I already tried them in my converse, but they were to high. The podiatrist recommend shoes with removable insoles, but they are all UGLY! So, I would like a website, store, etc. that has shoes with removable insoles that are somewhat fashionable. Also, not wearing the orthotics is not in option. If I do not wear them I risk ripping my Achilles tendon and having surgery, and my feet already are in pain every night for the sore tendons. So, please help or I will have ugly shoes forever!

How long do sprained ankles normally take to heal, and what is the longest it should take to heal?
I sprained my ankle the day after Memorial Day, so it has been close to 5 months since I was hurt. It is still normal for it to hurt everyday? I have been through 6 weeks of physical therapy and was told to continue to use it as I normally would but in moderation. I am a runner so I started to get back into running again. The pain started to get worse so I haven’t ran in a couple weeks. I know ice and elevation are good to help the healing process. I have Achille’s tendonitis (inflammation in my Achille’s tendon) so I have pain in my Achilles also. Any help on this pain? I was told it would only take 6-8 weeks to heal, I didn’t know it would take 5 months. Is this normal? For the most part, the pain is not localized, it varies in different places of my foot. I haven’t had any tests besides X-rays done, and they showed nothing. I was told if it gets worse to have an MRI done, but most doctors just tell me it is ok for it to this long. Is all of this normal?
what should I do about my achilles tendinitis?
It’s on my right heel and it has a big goose egg on the back…I’ve had it for about 2 years now…but hasn’t really started hurting until this past week.
I’ve Iced it, elevated it, even soaked it in hot water with some epsom salt in it…still nothing..the swelling is still there and the pain hasn’t gone away.
It’s been so bad, that it’s even tough for me to walk right on it. Would it be worth my while to go see a podiatrist or even a sports medicine doctor?!
I just don’t want it to get so bad that my tendon ruptures and then have to have surgery on it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
