Achilles Tendonitis – Prevention & Treatment
The calf muscle is attached to the heel bone by one of the strongest tendons in the body, the Achilles Tendon. The Achilles Tendon works very hard as we step, run or participate in strenuous activities such as is required in most athletic activities.
When this tendon is overworked, it can become sore, swollen and inflamed. This soreness can escalate to where the condition continues constantly. Achilles Tendonitis can be related to continued activities that place unusual stress on the Achilles Tendon. Activities such as walking, running, hiking or participation in sporting activities before the tendon can adapt to develop a tolerance through the development of strength, endurance and flexibility can lead to Achilles Tendonitis.
The injury is common among runners/joggers and people who participate in other sporting activities; especially, those that require running such as tennis and basketball. Achilles Tendonitis also frequently affects women who regularly wear high heel schools and then switch to flats. The Achilles is not used to the additional stretch and becomes inflamed.
Soreness can occur at any point in the tendon but usually occurs at the point where the tendon connects to the heel bone. Shoes that rub on the back of the heel can irritate the tendon. A callus can develop on the back of the heel from this irritation, a condition referred to as heel bump or pump bump. Then, the only means of relief is to remove the source of the irritation, the shoes.
Achilles Tendonitis is easily treated. Wear shoes that fit properly so that they do not have too much motion with each step. Also rest, ice packs to reduce swelling and inflammation, and if necessary, elevate the effected area to help reduce swelling. If the condition is painful, over the counter medication such as ibuprofen can be taken. People who are a high risk due to their activities should be sure to stretch adequately before performing athletic activities.
Achilles Tendonitis can be a serious condition and should be treated immediately. Prolonged and unattended to inflammation can bring on a chronic problem and allow scar tissue to develop which will decrease flexibility and increase the chance of a tear or rupture.Wearing good quality Orthotic Arch Support Insoles with a deep heel cup may eliminate some of the excessive motion which irritates the heel and tendon.

Gout Treatment – How To Help Yourself
I’m a 44 year old, full on “weekend warrior” and i have recently discovered that I have Gout. I am recovering after having Achilles tendon surgery six months ago. It was a rather bad, complete rupture I managed to inflict on myself during bouts of extremely intensive training. Not satisfied initially that it was an Achilles tear I continued on in absolute agony, to train again the following weekend. (left leg was black below the knee and could hardly bear any weight). Finally I went for an MRI scan, and yes it was confirmed as a complete rupture, “oh and by the way, there’s a bit of arthritis in your ankle, but nothing to worry about”. Anyway, the recovery was hampered by a nasty infection to the surgery wound, for which I was taking antibiotics (3 different types) for months.
So the outcome, I’ve since learned, is that combining the initial ankle trauma, the Achilles surgery, the months of immobility, along with the copious amounts of antibiotics, which also caused the Candida I have suffered with for years to flare up, made me The Number One Candidate to Get Gout. Analysis of my diet and drinking habits upon further investigation into Why me? revealed still more reasons that I Got Gout!
Furthermore, I told my father back in England (I live in Australia), about my condition. His reply was to inform me that he had been taking medication for years to help with his rheumatoid arthritis (same family or what?). So to top off my list of ’self inflicted’ causes I now had an hereditary reason that I was bound to be a gout victim. Thanks!
I had been limping around for almost 6 months, thinking that the symptoms I was experiencing were just normal, post Achilles surgery reactions. Lack of mobility, swelling, aches and pains etc.
I decided that I needed some help so I went to see my doctor and he diagnosed the Gout problem and dutifully prescribed Allopurinol and Colchicine, but thankfully with some wise words of advice…..”You don’t want to be taking these for too long, have a look for more natural alternatives”. I took his advice and immediately set about researching Gout, its causes and more importantly, what Gout treatment choices were available.
The first thing I did was to look up “Colchicine” and here’s the rather disturbing explanation I found,
Colchicine – a poisonous extract of autumn crocus plants.
Use – to inhibit cell division and cause chromosome doubling in plants, to treat gout.
Well that was enough for me, I decided then and there that I was going to investigate the facts about gout and gout treatment in order to find another way to treat myself, alternative or otherwise. Here’s the basis of what I found out.
Gout is a very painful form of arthritis, which occurs when there is an excessive build up of uric acid in the body (hyperuricemia). When this buildup of uric acid is overly elevated it can accumulate in the joints throughout the body as sharp urate crystals.
These urate crystals may be present in the joint for a long time without causing symptoms, but can often lead to pain, tenderness, redness, warmth, and swelling in the affected areas. Infection, injury to the joint, surgery, drinking too much alcohol, or eating the wrong kinds of foods may suddenly bring on the symptoms.
More people than ever these days seem to be suffering fromgout. It will affect around 1-2% of the Western population at some point in their lives.Gout affects an estimated one million Americans, most commonly men (800,000 men versus 200,000 women). Men tend to develop gout in their late 30s or early 40s. Women more typically develop gout later in life, starting in their 60s.
The elevated levels of uric acid and subsequent increase in the incidence of gout are believed to be due to the increase in a number of risk factors in our modern society. These include metabolic syndrome, longer life expectancy and changes in diet. Gout was historically known as “the disease of kings” or “rich man’s disease”, due to the fact that the diet of these people included many of those foods with high levels of purines (purines raise levels of uric acid).
Many people prefer to tackle their Gout problem by utilizing more natural treatment protocols, which address the actual cause of the Gout rather than merely masking the symptoms (pain and swelling).
To even become aware that there are ‘alternative’ treatment options when looking for a Gout remedy is in itself empowering. Lowering the level of uric acid in the body is the primary issue. Dietary changes, re-hydration, simple mobilization techniques, along with a gentle increase in exercise, will combine to bring about huge improvements in your condition.
These changes will also affect the ph level in your body, making your body more alkaline, ideally around 7.35 on an acid(1), alkaline(14) scale. This in itself will have an enormous effect on your general well-being, whilst giving a huge boost to your immune system. Uric acid is more easily dissolved and ultimately excreted from a body that has a higher ph ratio.
Adequate hydration is essential, not only for helping your body to dilute harmful uric acid, but also to help dissolve and excrete the harmful urate crystals. For the overall benefits to your health, drinking good quality filtered water regularly throughout the day should become second nature, not waiting until you feel thirsty to have a drink. The general guidelines are to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, although this will need to be adjusted depending on your environment and activity level.
A daily regimen of active and passive joint mobilization exercises will also help to get the circulation flowing by moving the ’stagnant’ energy. By adopting this approach you will help your body to dislodge the urate crystals that have built up. This kind of gentle stimulation is similar in essence to hatha yoga, but instead, focusing on the joints rather than stretching muscles, ligaments and tendons.
This is just the beginning of my quest to finding the right Gout Treatment for me. The improvement in my condition has been great. I’m more active and mobile, especially noticeable first thing in the morning – no more hobbling like a crippled old man to get to the bathroom!
This will be an ongoing process for me as there are so many Gout Products available and there is always something new to learn.

Tendinitis Treatment
Tendinitis (informally also tendonitis) is an inflammation of a tendon that generates pain and tenderness near a joint. It most often is associated with overuse from an increased level of exercise or a specific motion that is repetitive or intensified. Vitamins and supplements are another are another cure. Calcium and magnesium supplements can help soothe the pain. Another supplement that you can try is also is to increase your intake of Vitamin C. Some other natural cures that you may want to try are herbal teas. These teas can help with the pain and inflammation. Another choice would be to start to change you diet, which can eliminate the pain. Symptoms of Patellar tendinitis: 1-Pain and tenderness in the patellar tendon below the knee. 2-Swelling in your knee joint or swelling where the patellar tendon attaches to the shinbone. 3-Progress to be present before, during and after physical activity. 4-”Snapping” sensation with squat motion. 5-Become a constant ache that can make it difficult to sleep at night. Treatment of Tendinitis Resting the injured area along with application of ice pack on the day of the injury are the most effective initial treatments for Tendinitis. Anti-inflammatory medications should be taken if the pain and swelling are too severe. Treatment to relieve pain includes resting the joint (by immobilizing it with a sling, splint, or cast), pain medication, applying cold or heat, ultrasound therapy, or local injection of an anesthetic and corticosteroids to reduce inflammation. A mixture of a corticosteroid and an anesthetic, such as Xylocaine, generally provides immediate pain relief. Extended-release injections of corticosteroids offer longer pain relief. The Ayurvedic treatment of tendinitis is aimed at treating the damage to the tendon, reducing inflammation and promoting healing. Commonly used medicines for this purpose are: Triphala-Guggulu, Trayo-Dashang-Guggulu, Yograj-Guggulu, Maha-Rasnadi-Guggulu, Maha-Rasnadi-Qadha, Maha-Vat-Vidhwans-Ras, Ekangveer-Ras and Agnitundi-Ras. To prevent feet and ankle tendinitis, be sure to stretch properly before exercising. Stretch your hamstrings (the muscles in the backs of your thighs) your calf muscles and your feet. Roll your feet and ankles in circles going both directions and point and flex your feet. Causes of tendinitis Tendinitis is a the connecting link of the muscles, tissues and bones which is a cord. Inflammation of this cord caused by too much usage of the muscles and any injury that might have occurred results in this kind of pain in the neck and shoulder regions. Upper back pain, pain in the left shoulder and the neck are caused by rotator cuff injuries. Tendinitis is typically caused when there is repeated minor impact to that particular area. It can sometimes also be caused by a sudden and more serious injury. Some of the activities that commonly cause this include gardening, painting, carpentry, skiing, scrubbing, raking, golfing and shoveling. Tendinitis can be prevented by consistently stretching muscles, especially the ones that get more use than the others. This causes the tendon’s link to the muscle to increase in length and become more flexible and therefore, less likely to tear.
Severe headache! Enough to seek medical treatment?
I have had a severe heachache since Halloween. I attributed it to stress and then to sinus pressure. I have taken Excedrin Migraine, Excedrin Back & Body, oral Percocet, Aleve and I have recieved a shot of Toradol. I am in excruciating pain and I am at a loss as to what to do. I have had the headache, dizziness, severe nausea and now muscle spasms in the upper back underneath the shoulder blade. I am not sleeping well, I am irritable and also my upper calves and Achilles Tendon is very tender and throbbing. Should I go to ER or do I wait this out? Any advice would be appreciated!
What are the symptoms and treatment for achilles tendon partial tear?
I am a fifteen year old athlete who plays lacrosse and gymnastics. Two weeks ago i landed on the front of my foot while doing a backflip. It didn’t hurt but it felt weird. Two days later i ran a mile. The next morning i could not walk without pain in the back of my ankle and heel. I still cannot run or walk without pain or rise up on my toes. I have been continuing to run and play lacrosse since i hurt it. Do i need to see a doctor and/or stop playing? Options that don’t include sitting out would be the best.
how long does tendinitis….pulled Achilles tendon..take to heel? the best treatment? can it b chronic prob?

I have been diagnosed with a vascular blockage, what are my treatment options beside surgery and asprin?
My foot was ice cold and my doctor originally diagnosed me with tendinitis of the foot and ankle. He took a second look at my foot and thought there was a blockage, he proved right with an ultrasound of the vascular system. So I need to know some non-expensive treatment options if anyone knows any.
Thanks

Shock Wave Relief through SONOREX TREATMENT
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is a groundbreaking non-invasive method of treating localized musculoskeletal pains such as tendonitis and heel spur. Sonorex shockwave treatment is an extremely safe method of combating pain and is believed to be used before drugs or steroid injections are recommended to the patient.
History of Sonorex
Early 1990’s saw German investigators doing research on the use of shockwaves to treat painful musculoskeletal disorders. To begin with, modified kidney stone lithotripters were used for treatment of these disorders but proved cumbersome because the devices were not designed to treat multiple areas of the body. In addition, it also delivered high-energy shock waves resulting in severe pain that required regional or general anesthesia. Having determined that treatment with lower energy shock waves was more effective, chronic pain associated with tendonitis of the shoulder, knee, elbow, and foot was first treated. This gave birth to Sonocur, a low energy shock wave machine by Siemens Medical Systems.
Tendonopathy Treatment through Sonorex Sonocur
Sonocur® basic of sonorex has been successful in treating the following disorders with several clinics posting 70 – 90% success rate among the patients.
* tendinitis of the knee known as patellar tendinitis
* tendinitis of the foot known as Achilles tendinitis
* tendinitis of the shoulder
* heel spur called plantar fasciitis
* golfer’s or tennis elbow also referred to as lateral or medial epicondylitis
The treatment usually involves three weekly shock wave sessions and each session typically lasts for 15-20 minutes during which the shock wave is concentrated on the affected area. It is important to complete the entire recommended course of treatment. Some patients may notice reddened skin at the treatment area while some will have pinpoint bleeding sites on the skin both of which will resolve in due course after the final treatment.
Treatment Procedure with Sonocur
* You can eat and drink normally before undergoing treatment.
* It is imperative that you indicate to the treatment technician, the exact location where you are experiencing maximum pain.
* The technician will then apply a gel to the skin of the affected spot to transmit the shock wave.
* After applying the gel, the technician will place the sonocur treatment head on that point of tenderness and adjust the shock wave penetration depth.
* Initially the shock wave application will be at a lower level. It is important that you do not move the body part that being treated.
* Since energy levels and the depth of penetration are based on the treatment site and the thickness of the tissues overlying the tendons, the technician will ascertain the optimum energy level required for treatment.
* You will feel a mild tingling sensation during the treatment. Notify the technician if this becomes uncomfortable so the energy levels can be duly adjusted.
* Mild discomfort after the treatment for a short time is natural.
Shockwave Effects on Chronic Pain
The action of shockwaves on chronic pain remains a mystery till date but these following explanations have been put forth by experts:
Hyperstimulation analgesia – the low energy shock waves offer adequate stimulation to the nerves through a complex pathway which in turn hampers the pain sensation transmission.
Shock wave induced neovascularization – the shock waves promote an increase in blood supply to the affected region causing reduction in inflammation and pain.
Chemical alteration – the low energy shock waves alter or stimulate the formation of chemical compounds in the affected areas thereby alleviating the pain.
Sonorex treatment is neither a ‘miracle cure’ nor a substitute for other conventional methods of treatment. It works best in conjunction with other normal course of treatments.
Natural Treatment for Sprain
Many a time you woke up and feel a hurt in the area of your neck, the reason behind this may be sprain in your lower back area of neck and this can be caused by bad sleeping posture. This can also be happen while lifting any heavy weight. Neck sprain is called irritation in muscles, tendons and ligaments in upper back and also in neck area. It is an irritation in the tissues of neck.
Now that you understand some of the anatomy involved at the ankle joint, you are ready to learn about the different types of ankle sprain, how they are graded and how they are caused. Once you have a good foundation of the anatomy and the injury we can begin to discuss how to go about minimizing the chances of sustaining this common injury.
Treatment:
1. Your approach must include a plan, implementation, review of findings and follow-up. For example, if using the job observation program as a reinforcement strategy, first develop a checklist to ensure consistent evaluation of body mechanics. Then determine who will perform the inspections, establish a set frequency (e.g., weekly, monthly) and train them how to perform the observations.
2. Ice is critical to reducing swelling and using an ice whirlpool definitely has advantages over just ice in a bucket because heat is taken away from the ankle so much faster.
3. If you have a Grade 2 sprain, your doctor may recommend that you wear an ankle brace until the sprain heals and use crutches for a short time.
4. As with any injury, recovery time will depend on the seriousness of the sprain. Regardless of the severity, you can speed up the healing process by staying off your ankle and resting it as much as possible. No matter what the grade of injury, unless it is splinted or casted, your doctor will probably tell you to apply ice packs to relieve swelling and pain.
5. Ankle strengthening is an essential part of recovering from an ankle sprain. The key is to make sure you don’t go too fast. Again, pain is an indicator that you may be doing too much too soon. Elastic band exercises are a good way to work on improving ankle strength. Other exercises like calf raises, lunges, and step ups will also work to strengthen your ankle muscles.
6. To get rid of neck pain, you can use some simple exercises at home, which may provide relief in pain from neck. You can practice an exercise, which includes moving of shoulders, and turn your head side from left to right, as this may help in providing relax from the pain. You can make a bandage with the black coffee on the neck sprain.
7. Shoes may increase or decrease your risk for ankle sprains. Some researchers theorize that certain types, such as high-top basketball shoes, may increase proprioceptive feedback from the ankle joint[12]. There is also some evidence that shoes offer some resistance to the excessive range of motion in the ankle[13].
